Being able to play 16th notes with control and accuracy is a huge step in becoming a better bass player, and this is a great exercise to help develop that skill. In this one we are subdividing one quarter note beat into every possible 16th note variation. If you spend a few minutes practicing through them with a metronome or drumbeat, your sense of time will start to improve right away.
When you become aware of where each 16th falls in a beat (to count the 16ths in one beat we say, “one-e-and-a”), you will start to be able to feel them without having to count. All’s it takes is a few minutes a day, and you’ll start to get a grip on where each individual 16th falls in time with the beat.
